Experimental Design- Sophisticated Doodle

The students created a sophisticated doodle incorporating the elements of design. This kind of doodling is also referred to as Zintangle, thought to promote meditation, stress relief, and getting the creative juices flowing. I instructed them to free themselves from the expectations of the finished product and let them create more spontaneously from the unconscious mind.

Art 2- Monochromatic Value Painting

The students had to create a monochromatic value painting of complimentary colors based off of an observational drawing of geometrical shapes.

Art 2- Theme Weave

The students selected  two images with a common theme and wove them together to create a new composition. Students then had to redraw the new image on a larger white paper using a grid method to enlarge and re-proportion. Value was achieved  by using either graphite pencil or colored pencil.

Studio Art- Portrait Collage

Students created a collage portrait from ripped magazine pages. The goal was not to use realistic colors but rather values to portray the subject.

Studio Art- Pinhole

The students were asked to produce a work of art using only a pushpin. The illusion of value was created by either condensing or separating the pushpin holes. The subject matter was left up to the students, so there are a wide variety of topics ranging from organic to typographic imagery.
